Today we announced new copilot capabilities within Dynamics 365 Project Operations that will harness AI to keep projects on track, and within budget, and help predict/mitigate issues—all roadblocks to productivity and successful delivery of services.
Dynamics 365 Project Operations Copilot - The updates include:
Task plan feature assists with creating a new project plan template based on similar projects, to make intelligent task and timeline recommendations. This reduces time-consuming work and speeds up the creation of projects.
The status report provides a written project status report using critical KPIs, progress of tasks, service execution data and metrics, and financial activity, within seconds when previously it could take 23 hours for a project manager to pull together the same level of detail.
The risk assessment copilot monitors the project for risks and suggests mitigation plans continuously to help project managers be more proactive and successful.
How does it work?
These new capabilities are built on the latest GPT models available through Azure OpenAI Service. You can find more information in the Azure OpenAI service documentation here. We prompt the GPT model to use trusted public websites and internal document resources configured by the customer as the primary source of knowledge for its responses.
Dynamics 365 Project Operations copilot uses large language models (LLMs) to generate a task plan for the project to make it easier for service–based organizations to take up new opportunities and ground-breaking work.
To create a project status report, the copilot uses the structured data from Project Operations and uses large language models (LLMs) to generate content reported in the project like critical KPIs, work, and financial activity into a consolidated status report.
The copilot technology is also able to understand project status and generate risks and mitigation plans for those risks.
What was the need for features like these?
For project managers, a major pain point is struggling to complete projects on time and within budget. Dynamics 365 Copilot empowers project managers throughout the project/service lifecycle by automating manual, labor-intensive asks, boosting productivity, and successfully delivering services easily and efficiently. This is accomplished by:
Making task and duration recommendations for the project using its understanding of typical tasks created in similar projects across Project Operations.
Automatically generate project status reports to reduce manual administrative efforts.
Take corrective action to keep the project on track by referencing the risks and mitigations created by the co-pilot’s analysis.
Identify opportunities with AI to improve results and processes with AI-driven insights enabling teams to accomplish more with less resources and redeploy talent to higher value activities.
How does this compare to competitor offerings?
AI-generated assisted status reports, risk assessments, and task plans for projects are unique to the market. We are not aware of any direct competitors providing similar functionality to users at this time.
Are these capabilities available now?
These capabilities are available in public preview now.
What regions are these capabilities available in?
For the launch of Public Preview on June 15, these capabilities will be available in North America and the English language only.
Will these features cost extra? Will they be included in any subscriptions?
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Project Operations Copilot will be included in the Dynamics 365 Project Operations license without additional cost.
